After watching “Suicide Squad” I am very conflicted. On the one hand I think that the film was the best DC Comic movie since the “Dark Knight” trilogy, on the other hand I also feel the film could have been way better if a few things were done differently. First and foremost the film was worthwhile, it is definitely worth the price of admission. All roles were perfectly cast in my opinion and for a movie about a group of supervillains forced to work for the U.S. government it had a surprising amount of heart. However the few missteps is the film did detract from my overall enjoyment of the film.

Will Smith and Margot Robbie stole the show as Deadshot and Harley Quinn respectively. For a couple of merciless killing machines the two of them played their roles with quite a bit of likeability. I never thought I would say but Jai Courtney wasn’t terrible as Captain Boomerang. I actually found myself laughing a few times when he came on screen, he is by far the weakest member of the team, power wise, but he does bring some much needed comedic relief to a film that I think was a little too serious at times.

However the film is not perfect by any means. It feels almost as if it is missing a few scenes. There are times when a character will be in trouble in one scene and in the very next the same character will appear and will show up like nothing happened. On top of that my biggest gripe is the Joker. He is barely in the film to begin with, and when he is in the film he just doesn’t feel right. I much prefer the Heath Ledger Joker to this mob boss esc character. The old Joker was a psychopath on a mission, while in this ideration he seems to just be doing things on a whim. This may just be the way I saw it but over all I feel the Joker should not have been in the film at all let alone in only about ten minutes.

Suicide Squad was a good film that I definitely recommend to comic book movie fans. It does have a few missteps but in the end “Suicide Squad” gets a 8/10, it is a fun film and I look forward to seeing a sequel in the near future.
