Kid Cudi Dropping New Album

Roberto Hernandez, Staff Writer

Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi, has been in and out of the limelight for almost a decade now, and after nearly a year of little music being released, he has decided to come forward with the promise of a new album. Back in 2008 he quickly rose to fame after his signing onto G.O.O.D music with mentor Kanye West, at the time, as well as releasing popular songs such as “Pursuit of Happiness” and “Day n Nite.” After the release of several albums and taking a dip into acting, Cudi is back with his sixth studio album going with the title of “Passion, Pain, and Demon Slayin.”

The announcement of the album came back in May and had a set date to be released sometime over the summer, but has since been postponed to September or October. Though some fans were angered with the delaying of the album others were understanding of Cudi’s busy schedule. Apart from producing and making music, he has to juggle constant touring as well as a new acting job he landed on the hit TV series “Empire.” While the postponement of the album is bad news, better news was introduced when Cudi promised the installment of another album in the fall. Although the information about the next album after “Passion, Pain, and Demon Slayin,” is limeted many are speculating it could be the much anticipated “Man on the Moon III” album which would be reminiscent of his old material that originally brought him to fame.

Known for being a musical anarchist and spreading across several genres, Cudi is going to have to make up for his last rock/grunge album, which was considered a flop in sales as well as receiving harsh critical reviews all around. Despite some fans and critics being skeptical of Cudi going mainstream, as he was once before, he doesn’t seem bothered and is indifferent towards the negative comments as he’s always been towards the public eye. Apart from the minimal amount of criticism on Cudi, the majority of people went right back to supporting him after the release of three singles from “Passion, Pain, and Demon Slayin.” The titles given were “Frequency,” “All In,” and “GoodBye” and received extremely positive reviews. To many it seems like Cudi is done with the rock and grunge fiasco he had going, and is now back to his roots of rapping with a new element to it. Could the rebirth of Cudi be on its way after many attempts, or is it going to lead to the ultimate downfall of his career.
