DC hosted a 1-day online-only convention, was a free virtual fan experience, and lasted 24 hours on August 22, 2020. The online convention showcased updates and trailers for Wonderwomen 1984, Snyder Cut of Justice League, The Suicide Squad, Black Adam,  Gotham Knights Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and The Batman. 

The convention had a lot of content and left a lot of fans excited or anxious about how all of these games and movies would play out. The trailer for Wonder Woman introduced Cheetah, one of Wonder Woman’s archenemies that have appeared in numerous comics, and seeing her role in the trailer is interesting, to say the least. 

So to begin with the Snyder Cut of Justice League,the project is finally going to see the light of day and it has been a long fight, not only for Warner Brothers and DC but fans as well. Fans created a hashtag #releasethesnydercut and had thousands of fans to support and spread the hashtag. Snyder was originally supposed to direct the movie but while in production his daughter passed away, then Joss Whedon took over and made several reshoots, changes to the script, and added a new brighter tone and more humor to the movie. I wished that Joss Whedon did not take over because they way he made the movie it felt like it was trying to to be like Marvel with its upbeat tone and humor, and DC has shown it can make a more upbeat movie and implement humor like shazam but Justice League didn’t feel natural like shazam did. Once the release of Justice League, fans were disappointed how it turned out as it received a 71% audience score on “Rotten Tomatoes.” While many fans were disappointed in Whedon’s Justice League, Snyder’s Justice League looks to be promising and fulfills what Justice League could have been at the time of release.

The Suicide Squad has finally made a return since the last time it debuted on the big screen on August 5, 2016. The movie “The Suicide Squad” introduced new characters to the big screen that never been seen before. When James Gunn was temporarily fired from Marvel, and DC reached out to James Gunn to direct a soft reboot to “The Suicide Squad 2020.” The trailer showcased over 15 new characters some returning from  Suicide Squad 2016. 

We then have Black Adam, it is going to be a prequel to the movie “Shazam!” Black Adam will be an antihero played by Dwayne Johnson and will be about his origin story. I am excited about how this movie will play out because Dwayne Johnson fits the role and I believe with a good script the movie will be a great origin story.

Now onto videogames, the first game showcased in the convention was Gotham Knights and it will take place in another universe where Batman is presumed dead and it is up to Robin, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Knightwing to protect Gotham. The trailer showcased some gameplay of the protagonists battling Mr. Freeze and is going to be an RPG style type of game. Gotham Knights look like it will be somewhat the same as the Avengers game with it implementing co-op and being an RPG game. It also changed how Gotham is depicted in movies and the other Batman games Gotham looks more upbeat and has more light but Gotham is known for being a not so pleasant place and having a more gritty tone. This will be an interesting take on Gotham City but hopefully, it exceeds the standards of what Gotham is supposed to be.

The second game showcased was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will have you play as some members of The Suicide Squad and takes place in Metropolis City and will have you battle the Justice League. I am especially interested in this not only will we be able to play as the Suicide squad we are going to be able to play and see Metropolis.

Now onto the news, Shazam: Fury Of The Gods will be a sequel to the first movie Shazam and will showcase more of the family and filling the last chair from the first movie.

Ezra Miller’s “The Flash” had concept art showcasing Micheal Kessins Batman and will create a flashpoint where the Flash will go to multidimensions. The movie will also include Ben Affleck’s Batman. The way I see this movie playing out is like the animated movie Justice league the FlashPoint Paradox

Last but certainly not least we have The Batman, they finally revealed the trailer and it showed a few villains such as two The Penguin, The Riddler, and Catwoman in pre-supervillain forms. This is because the movie will be leaning on Batman during his second of protecting Gotham. Instead of having Ben Affleck play Batman, they chose a new actor, Robert Patterson to play the role of Batman. The trailer received much praise from fans and gave them a sense of hope that DC will make a huge comeback and may finally compete  toe to toe with Marvel.

  I have been especially excited to see all of these trailers and it made me so happy as a movie and DC fan to finally see all this content coming out. My hopes and expectations are high and I believe these movies, shows, games have the potential to expand the universe of DC and be something special for the fans.
