RIP Glenn, and Our Hearts

Holding one of the biggest audiences on television, The Walking Dead is back with a seemingly actionpacked season 7. Starting the season off with a bang, literally, The Walking Dead didn’t fail to impress with the content it provides. Despite always having an exemplary storyline, the series experienced a rough start with the first two seasons receiving low viewership. Eventually, though, the show massed enough viewers to become a hit, due to its unique tone and portrayal of a zombie apocalypse.
While on the surface The Walking Dead may seem like all other cliche stories with the protagonist prevailing as the hero, underneath quite the opposite can be seen. Rick and his group are constantly tasked with struggles where they are left with the loss of one or more of their own people. The continuous deaths cause a major toll amongst the entirety of the group along with leaving each individual character to undergo, both a physical and mental, evolution throughout the series. However, the effects of season 7 are of such high caliber that they amount to something never seen before.
To begin with, leaving the season 6 finale as a cliffhanger was a grand risk as it put all the momentum built up from the episode to a complete halt. However, much hype was constructed from all the theories and continuous talk on who Negan killed. Unsurprising to many, Glenn received the same death as in the comics with only a slight twist as the tank of the group, Abraham, died coherently. Although the two were expected to get the punishment of Lucille, many were unprepared to face the deaths of such lovable characters, especially in such a grotesque and gory manner. In a look of optimism, however, season 7 will be a whole new ride offering the introduction of many new characters, as well as, other survivor groups such as The Kingdom, The Whisperers, and much more. The upcoming season can be marked as a turning point for the show and viewers as it will illustrate just how big the world of the zombie apocalypse really is for Rick and his group. Regardless of how big the world gets for them, one thing is for sure, they’re going to be stretched to their limits.
