The Odds of…
November 17, 2016
Everyday, there is always a chance of something happening. Today you might see a celebrity, die from a bar of soap, Kid Cudi might finally release his album. The possibilities are endless. However, there are possibilities that are more likely to occur than others. This leads to the question on whether the odds are against or for you.
Odds are the chances, or likelihood of something happening. Like the odds of winning the mega millions lottery are 1 in 135,145,920, so obviously the odds are against a person trying to win it.
There are factors that determine whether the odds are for or against you, like buying more lottery tickets increases your chances of winning, buying less decrease your chances, and not buying any eliminates your chances.
Therefore here are some odds that could be for or against you:
Being attacked and killed by a shark – 1 in 3,748,067 A terrifying fear of being attacked by a shark, is actually not as common as you may think. You are more likely to die by falling coconuts than a shark attack.
Being struck by lightning – 1 in 700,000 You know what they say, lightning never strikes in the same place twice. However in Texas, a survivor, Casey Wagner was struck by lightning twice in the same day.
A meteor landing on your house – 1 in 182,138,880,000,000 By the looks of it, it doesn’t look like you’d need to invest in meteor insurance.
Becoming a billionaire – 1 in 7,000,00 Look on the bright side, you are more likely to win an Oscar (1 in 11,500) than become a billionaire.
Becoming a professional athlete – 1 in 22,000 With patience, and strong determination it is possible to go professional.
Injury from fireworks – 1 in 19,556 As you may imagine, the chances of injury increase on the 4th of July, something worth taking note.
Becoming the President of the Unites States – 1 in 10,000,000 Look on the bright side, with an election every four years, the odds could be in your favor.
Being involved in a fatal car crash in California – 1 in 6,063 Factors like texting or drinking while driving raise the probability of a fatal car crash. Yet, if you don’t do these things at all, you’ll have a better chance of avoiding an accident.
A plane crashing – 1 in 11,000,000 Surprisingly, flying over 30,000 feet in the air turns out to be way more safer than driving a car.
Fnding your real life double- 1 in a 1,000,000,000,000 This isn’t exactly true, if you want to find your real life double immediately, you can simply look in a mirror.
