The new policy in PE is that if you don’t participate you get lunch detention the next day and a note home. Maxton Seals a 9th grader says that “I feel like it’s stupid because like if I got hurt the night before and I ain’t tell nobody, I gotta sit down like i’m getting detention and a zero like what if I have a health condition and like now I have to sit down now I gotta do lunch detention now I can’t eat. So they are basically starving me”.
Logan Appaltin a sixth grader said “ I do not like the new rule because it’s stupid because, what if you forgot your PE clothes and you need to take a zero, what if you get detention for that and what if you got hurt the day before that and you can’t do PE.”
Marisa Dier A sixth grader said that “ It is stupid because why do you need to get detention for that and she is not going to take a zero and that like it will be ok to give detention if you take a lot of zeros”
Mr. Gomez the PSA counselor says that “ When we talk about physical education, unfortunately we had a lot of students that were not participating or cooperating in physical education and this led to a lot of failing grades. For us one of the interventions that were doing is to have the students participate more actively so were working with families and students for them to participate and get a better grade, if this is not taking place these students will be referred for an intervention to talk to us and hopefully we can talk to them in this matter and you know introduce them the value of education the value of passing their classes so their not taking detention one more time”.
A solution for this problem can be that the PE teachers can reward the students who actually do PE and all the people taking O’s would want to participate
Although not many people like this rule and think it’s dumb that unfortunately this rule is here to stay and hopefully one day the students will actually realize that this rule is gonna stay no matter their opinions on the matter.
