The band is great at the football games, the perfect soundtrack to our winning season.
Sixth grader Eric Herrera is a drummer in our school band.
Eric feels like he belongs in a band because in 5th grade he wanted to play the drums and his wish came true. Whenever Eric gets angry and sad he can hit his emotions away.
“I feel so perfect in the band because I practiced in school and played in a show.”
Eric has been in the band for about a year and a half if you count his elementary school days.
”I like my instrument because it is loud and I can bite my emotions away.”
Eric is practicing to become the last stage of a drummer called a tenor. “
The reason why I joined the band is because of my love for drums, music and how loud the drums can be,” he added.
Next is 6th grade Cesc Villa Martinez. He is our saxophone player in our school. Cesc says “band is pretty great but, my only problem is band is like pe because the band has to run and go into position which makes band like pe.”
Despite the hard work, there are perks to being in the band, such as meeting new people.
”I’m in a band, I can make new friends and the people in the band support each other.”
Cesc feels happy in the band and he feels his emotions.
”I have been in his band for a year and a month because in 5th grade I joined a band in this school.”
Cesc can play any song that is an a cappella song. He also looks like Indaina Jones.
Eric, and Cesc are happy to now be in a band and so is Andrea Yanes. Andrea is in a joyful band because she has made many friends along the way.
”I have been in a band for 5 to 6 years and am trying to bring the championship home, rehearsals are worth it in the end,” Yanes said.
Andrea likes the people in the band because they support you if you’re new to the band and to help you to improve your skill.
“I feel confident about being in a band and my skills have improved,” she added.
Adera likes the sound of the instruments and classical music.
“I was a drum major and I’m a flute player now.”
The main reason why I joined the band is because it was really cool to see the high schoolers play. I Wanted to be in a band in middle school.
“I play the flute and I plan on playing the piccolo.”
The Marching Lobos won their first band competition this year on October 19 at Bellflower High School and will continue competing at Whittier High on November 2.
