Armod Newsome, senior, is on the track team for the first time but has made good progress. Newsome was actually very active in baseball and football but thought it was fun to do track in his last year.
“[It’s] my first year; I’m really liking it. Honestly being at this school, aside from baseball and football, track has been my first year playing. But in my first year playing track, it’s very interesting,” Newsome said.
Newsome runs the 100 and 200 yard races and also does shot put. However he hasn’t been able to do shot put because of the weather, and hopefully he is able to in the following weeks.
“The weather has really flooded the stations for the shot put. So for my first race and my first time learning how to use all of the little mechanics and how to run right and everything, it was honestly fun. Coming in third place felt good and being fast felt good,” Newsome explained.
Newsome shared that his personal goal is to run in state, alongside his teammate John Gabuya.
“If I could push myself to it and get myself to it, I could actually go and play in state, because you have to be a senior to play in state. So if John got picked for state, I want to go too, you feel me? I wouldn’t want him to be the only senior. And I would want to experience that with him because I heard it’s very fun,” he said.
Newsome is a talented athlete and we wish him a successful rest of the track season and a good rest of his senior year.
