Boys’ volleyball season is finally here and is off to a good start. The Lobos hold a record of 7-2 in their current season. With the season flowing by, the boys continue to train and practice for their upcoming games and to continue their winning streak throughout the season.
Throughout the season so far, Coaches Angel and Izzy have taken the time to recognize one of the players for their hard work throughout the season so far.
And with that being said, the player that they have chosen is Jake Soriano. Soriano plays both middle blocker and outside hitter, as well as holding the position of captain for the varsity boys’ volleyball team! He is also a junior at Rancho Dominguez.
“It feels pretty shocking actually. I didn’t think I would be able to participate in something like this. Though I am very thankful to receive the recognition of being the spotlight player,” Soriano said.
With Soriano receiving his recognition, it brings him quite the shock. But was very proud of himself to be recognized by his coaches. He continues to strive for greatness and to push himself.
“It’s been a ride for sure. As a player, I had to learn that mistakes are okay and there is no perfect in a sport. I’ve improved a lot so far, but I know I’m not done at getting better,” Soriano said.
Throughout the years, Soriano has definitely had a journey in progressing throughout the years. And he believes that his determination and path to getting better does not stop here.
“Some things I’ve always enjoyed [are] the hype, energy and just the bonds you get from teammates over time. It’s really amazing how you can get along with others through a sport,” Soriano said.
One thing Soriano expresses big time is the friendships and brotherhood that you can find and grow within a sport. Another thing he also enjoys is the energy and hyping each other up before games and practices.
“Some goals I have set for this year is pretty simple. Overall I think we all have the same goal, and one goal only, in which for my team to take league, then to CIF, and go all the way to state! And it’s a big thing we are working towards throughout the season,” Soriano said.
The previous year the boys’ volleyball had taken it to CIF Championships, on their journey to state. Although they have fallen short, they will continue to train and pick back up where they left off last year.
As the Lobos are halfway through their season, they will continue to put in the work to keep their streak and to keep growing as a team.
