Rancho’s swim team has returned for another season of aquatic fun and competition. The team continues to be coached by Ms. Fukuda, who now leads along with the new coach, Mr. Case. Case had to fill in after one of the previous coaches, Mr. Casillas, had to step down.
“How did I become a swim coach? Fukuda asked me right at the end of the first semester,” stated Mr. Case.
When asked if he had any goals in mind heading into the season, Mr. Case replied, “I want everyone to master their flip turns and individually I want everyone to be better than last year and improve all their times, and just become stronger swimmers.”
“It’s a great sport, you get in great shape. It’s a great skill to have, and it’s a lot of fun. Everyone on the team is really nice and you can get a good tan,” Mr. Case said.
The swim team had their first meet on February 22nd against Cabrillo High School. A returning swimmer, 12th grader Amy Campos, spoke of one of her goals for the season.
“I hope to lower my 100 free time,” Campos said.
She also elaborated on the first meet of the season.
“I did pretty okay for my first 100 at a meet, but I do hope to lower my time moving forward. I hope we all get lower times and stay on our grind,” she continued.
A newcomer to the swim team, 12th grader Malvin Laroya, shared his goals as well.
“I hope to do 100 in a meet. I’m currently working on reaching my 200,” said Laroya.
He too went on to share his experience at the meet.
“I’d say I did pretty good at my first meet. The team overall too,” he said.
With strong swimmers paving the way with newcomers, and a new Mr. Case working alongside Ms. Fukuda, the future of the swim team seems brighter than ever.
