There’s a new fun trend on TikTok and Instagram Reels called phone interviews. This trend, although controversial at times, is very positive. This trend consists of students walking around their school and interviewing their peers. This is very good because it is another way for students to learn about each other and encourages them to learn how to communicate professionally.
It is no secret that cyberbullying exists and exclusion has been an issue for quite a while, however this trend discourages this because it includes everyone. An example is when people ask what music their peers enjoy. Music is something that most people enjoy so people don’t feel left out. This trend also rarely has people being cyberbullied. This also allows peers to feel special and learn more about each other. Because of this, this trend also encourages diversity because it allows different people to have the spotlight.
Another benefit of these phone interviews is that they improve kids’ and teens’ communication skills. This is because it helps kids become better listeners and it helps them be able to think on their feet because they are not prepared for the questions they are going to be asked. It also helps kids become better listeners because they can’t interrupt the kids they’re interviewing.
Sometimes these interviews have unintended consequences. An example of this would be when people interview couples and ask questions like “Can you swap phones?” This sometimes causes issues because people don’t feel comfortable sharing their phones with their partners. Despite this, these negatives are reflective of Gen Z’s attitude towards relationships and boundaries as a whole rather than a byproduct of phone interviews.
Taking everything into account including the negatives, phone interviews are generally a positive thing because it helps encourage students’ social skills and encourages kids to interact with others. It also allows kids who wouldn’t normally get the spotlight to have the attention on them.
