Kanye has teamed up with Ty Dolla Sign for his 12th studio album, Vultures 1, with 16 tracks featuring Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Freddie Gibbs, YG, Chris Brown and Rich the Kid. Although Vultures had multiple delays and many listening parties with different tracks still haven’t been released yet, the album itself from front to back is very solid.
“Stars” is a decent opening track with a choir singing the first part. Some eye-opening tracks for me are “Burn” and “Carnival.” “Burn” gives off a really upbeat summer vibe. Ty Dolla Sign kills it with his catchy hook/chorus and also assisted with great verses by Kanye. Although the song was short I still liked it and wished it could have been longer.
The production on “Carnival” is great with featured artists Playboi Carti and Rich the Kid giving off top tier verses, and the mixing is perfect with Kanye sampling his own song “Hell of a Life” at the 1:47 mark of “Carnival” which is one of my favorite highlights of the album.
But I feel like Kanye himself could’ve done better on the album. He could’ve done so much more lyrically as Kanye still had his flaws on the album. Ty Dolla Sign in my opinion did his thing though but I have to give Kanye credit. This is still a pretty solid album and although it would not go up there with his classics like “Graduation” and “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” it’s still a solid album that I would rate 6.5.
Other students gave their opinion on Vultures 1.
Gahel Arguello 11th grader, gave his thoughts and said, “I would’ve liked it if he would’ve released it earlier. There were some hits but it wasn’t the best, it’s in the lower tier. It’s definitely not ‘Graduation.’ We’re not going to complain. In the first half we started off strong and then the second half we were dying; it wasn’t really that good.”
He believed the first half of the album was good but didn’t really like the second half of the album. Arguello also gave his thoughts on the song “Carnival.”
“I’m not going to lie, the song in general was not that good but the presence of the song is what matters. The first five seconds is all you need,” he said.
Arguello explained that he thinks the song has a certain presence to it that made the song feel more special.
