As the girls’ soccer season came to an end, the team made it to the quarterfinals in the playoffs, being the first girls’ soccer team to make it there from our school.
“I think we did very well, definitely better than last year’s game. The schools we played were tough, but we were able to hold them,” said junior Violet Ruano. “The goals, all the goals were beautiful.”
The Lobos played hard both games for the entirety of the playoffs, fighting through each game and scoring every amazing goal.
“We were really strong this year, our defense was really good. It’s sad that we’re going to be losing our seniors, but hopefully next year we’re going to be having a whole bunch of incoming freshmen.”
Ruano has been playing soccer for nine years and has been playing for our school since freshman year. Throughout the season, the team has bonded and developed more to prepare for the playoffs.
“We were able to trust each other more on the field, we got better at passing. Our goalie, props to her, Isis, man she saved our butts so many times. We did good, we all grew, hopefully to fill in bigger shoes next year.”
Ruano will be a senior next soccer season, closing up her four years playing for Rancho.
“I’m glad that we made it farther than last year, hopefully we can go from quarters to semi to championship next year, but [I’m] glad that we made it as far as we did.”
“I think we did pretty good, as the first girls team to make it to quarterfinals in this school, I think that’s good,” said senior Rebecca Leyva.
Despite the position the team ended up in, they played an amazing two games in the playoffs.
“I haven’t played soccer in a while, so this was my first year joining for this school and I think I improved a lot since the beginning.”
As her first year playing for Rancho, Leyva had a great season especially since she got to experience the progression towards the quarterfinals, an experience that the whole team had for the first time in our school.
“I really bonded with the team, I feel like we made new friends throughout the whole season. I think that’s nice.”
As a senior, Leyva’s interest in playing soccer brought her into new friendships and experiences that she will take as she moves on from Rancho.
“I think we could’ve done better, but the game wasn’t on our side that day,” said freshman Vanessa Ruano.
Ruano had high hopes for this game since most of the team showed up.
“It took a turn,” she said.
The team played hard and started off strong, but despite the score, it was a great game.
“I think we worked good as a team, I really like how our teamwork has built over the season. Of course we have our differences, but we worked them out,” she said.
The players had a great time in the playoffs, and their coach was proud of the team for their performance.
“Making it to the playoffs was a great experience, especially being my first season coaching for the Rancho Lobos,” said Coach Nancy Ramirez. “This season was full of great vibes and fun times which they carried throughout the season to the playoffs.”
Coach Nancy is proud of the team for their motivational energy and participation that helped them grow and make it to the quarterfinals.
“The team has put in work on the field during practice and games and has shown improving skill and teamwork both as individuals and as a team,” she said. “Making it to quarterfinals for the first time was a great accomplishment both for the team and myself as a coach. Regardless of the position we ended up in, I feel like the girls gave it their all.”
Working hard the whole season, the soccer team gave it everything they had, ending off in 6th place in the playoffs out of 20 challenging teams.
“Closing our soccer season I can only say, it’s only the beginning to many more accomplishments. Be fierce, be tough, have heart.”
Overall, the girls’ soccer team played a great season and finished it off strong in the quarterfinals. Throughout their entire season, the growth and development of the team helped them keep their heads high until the last whistle.
