The L.A. Marathon is one of the most known traditions of Los Angeles. This run will be the 39th annual time it has been hosted. More than 20,000 people participate in the marathon every year. The marathon was first held in 1986 and was 26.2 miles long, having over 10,000 participants. On March 17th, 11 of our students will be participating in the event.
I interviewed three of the participants to ask them how they felt about participating in the marathon.
First, Martin Santos in 7th grade said, “I feel good about being in the marathon.”
Next, Breanna Tolo in 8th grade said, “I feel nervous and excited about running in it.”
Most of our students are both excited and nervous about running the marathon.
Rodrigo Castellanos in 8th grade said, “It feels great to be in it again because I can be with my good teammates.”
I also asked them, “How do you think you will do?”
Our 7th grader Santos said, “I think I will do well on my time and my running because I am fast.”
Our other guest Tolo said, “I think I will do well, but I feel 50-50 about it.”
Lastly, Castellanos said, “I did well last time so hopefully I do well this time too.”
The last thing I asked was “Why did you join?”
Santos said, “I joined because I was inspired by athletes who also do marathons.”
Our other interviewee said, “I joined to work on my stamina and because of my friends.” This is why most of our contestants are going this year.
Finally, Castellanos said, “I joined because I did it last year and it was great so I wanted to do it again.”
In conclusion to this article, the L.A. Marathon is not just a race, it is a celebration of determination, perseverance, and the human spirit, and we can’t wait to see what the 39th annual marathon has in store. I hope you are inspired by our students running in March to join next time. I also hope you and your family and friends can take up the challenge of running the 26 miles.
