This summer was packed with many exciting television premieres. New and returning shows captivated audiences, proving this TV season to be one of the most memorable in recent years. Some shows fared better than others, but still made for fun viewing experiences. Below are three shows that premiered over the summer, causing a splash in their own special ways.

       Marvel’s The Defenders: This Netflix mini-series brings together four Marvel heroes – Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Iron Fist (played by Krysten Ritter, Charlie Cox, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones, respectively) to battle the sinister organization the Hand, led by the malicious Alexandra Reid (played by Sigourney Weaver). Along the way, they learn that heroes are better when they work together. This show is packed with the action typical of Marvel productions, and offers a greater insight into its four superhero leads. Consisting of one season with eight episodes so far, this show definitely gives fans the epic crossover they’ve been waiting for. (Rating: TV-MA)

OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes: This Cartoon Network original follows young K.O. (voiced by Courtenay Taylor) as he embarks on a quest to become the greatest hero in the world. In order to do so, he takes up a job at Gar’s Bodega, where he meets fellow heroes Enid (Ashly Burch) and Radicles (Ian Jones-Quarty). This cartoon is full of colorful characters, fantastic animation, and clever stories that viewers of all ages will be able to enjoy. The show teaches children that they should never give up on their goals, and that they should always fight for what they believe in. The series currently has nineteen episodes, with new ones premiering every week. (Rating: TV-Y7)

Game Of Thrones: Perhaps the most anticipated event of the summer was the return of the acclaimed HBO series, based on the Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R.R Martin. The series is now on its seventh season. The new season sees Cersei Lannister (played by Lena Heady) ascending to the throne, and the ensuing struggles her reign creates for the rest of the kingdom. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is returning to Westeros, and Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) has become King in the North. The season proves to be an exciting continuation of the story that fans have been anticipating, full of its usual stunning scenery and characters. The season consists of seven episodes and ended on August twenty-seventh. (Rating: TV-MA)
